Inspired by his own coming of age experience in a small town in the late 60’s, author Tim Ranney seeks to convey a sense of nostalgia and vulnerability in his new novel, Summers End. “The story takes place in the summer of 1969 against the backdrop of Mickey Mantle’s retirement, the lunar landing, Woodstock and the Manson murders in California.” Ranney said. In Summers End, Ranney introduces readers to a teenager named Grant who has just finished his freshman year in high school and is eager to see what summer vacation will bring alongside his best friend David. Grant takes on a part-time job delivering papers and is constantly dragged into David’s dilemmas. When David sets his sights on winning the affection of a fellow classmate, Grant agrees to help. Meanwhile, Grant faces off with a class bully and gets his own first taste of puppy love.

Ranney aims to highlight the angst, uncertainty, earnestness and disappointment associated with being a teenager while also offering valuable lessons about growing up. “Grant and David discover things don’t always turn out the way they want, but always trying to do one’s best still counts for something,” Ranney said. “And loyalty and the bonds of friendship will carry one through.” Summers End is available for purchase online at Amazon.com.
